How I Improved My Golf Game

All us newcomers to the game of golf love to get tips from people who are more experienced. I myself can sit for hours and listen to people talk about the techniques the used to improve their game. I too have tried a great many things in the quest for this better game, and I finally realize, that only one point holds true in regards to golf.

I realized this only after years of trying this, and trying that, and trial and error learning. Gaining experience along the way, I took advice from many more experienced players. I even paid for some personal training from a professional I befriended. But I still was lacking something that would get me where I felt right about my game.

I entered a lot of tournaments, and I faired quite well in some, and I also tanked in a few. But I had determination, which is a quality that all golfers must have. Another of my friends recommended his best golf instruction book which I read and took to heart. And while I learned a few things, I still was not satisfied deep in my gut. I was still searching.

I was searching for something that would give me an edge. An extra vein of confidence that I seemed to be missing. I could not put my finger on what I was looking for, but I knew if I could find it, I would be a much better golfer than I was at that time. I worked hard at improving my game with what I knew. I played often, and tried to play courses that were very challenging.

It finally got to the point where my game leveled out. Some days were a little better, some days a little worse, but basically I stayed around the same skill level and ability. It made me stale, and was a bit discouraging. I remember lying awake nights wondering what this thing that haunted me could be. But nothing ever came. So I thought I was probably as good as I could ever be, and had to come to grips with it.

Finally, I decided just to let it go. Forget this thing that nagged me day in and day out. The days passed as I tried to push it out of my mind. I was tired of being troubled about it all the time. I went out on the porch one day to read my paper on the swing. I saw some little children in the next yard playing. They had dug up a pretty blue marble from the ground, and they were all excited about finding it. Then, they took turns holding it and making wishes while they held it. A light came on suddenly in my brain.

The kids were making wishes on a little blue marble they had found in the dirt. And it made me realize, that even from our childhood, we all believed in good luck charms, and I had left that out of my game. At the next tournament, before I teed off, I kissed my rhodium plated wedding ring, and golfed my best score in all my years of golfing. So simple, so powerful - Belief.

I'm talking about things like enamel postcards, teacups, Eiffel towers and ruby slippers the sort of charms and pendants you'd see on necklaces in Accessorize or Urban Outfitters?

Also, if you want to get really creative, they sell the materials & tools to make your own silver jewelry. I'm going to buy that sometime this year. Check their link. They have a great staff that can answer questions. And they have all kinds of charts, how-to videos etc...
