Tips For DIY Parties: Make Your Own Invitations
You'd be amazed at how many varieties there are of free printable party invites in this Internet age. No matter the occasion, there are free invitation images you can download and print on your printer. As might be expected, there are many general invitation types, such as commitment ceremony invitations. But there's also a large selection of free printable invitations that are available for a variety of holidays and quite specific types of parties. For instance, there are valentine party invitation templates, Fourth of July invitations and many others.
DIY invitations are relatively easy to produce if you know how to use a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word or EasyOffice; or a publishing program, such as Microsoft Publisher. Simply paste the invitation image into the software program, make it the size you want and print it out. As simple as that is, though, you'll want to be aware of some subtleties when creating the invitations. The following advice will help you grasp those subtleties and enable you to get the best results from the free invitation art:
- When using MS Word or other word processing software, the use of either tables or text boxes will allow you to get more than one invitation on a page. This will save you a lot of time -- and card stock. (You'll probably find that using a table is the easier strategy to use. If you're not proficient with tables or text boxes, read the help menu of your word processing software program.) Be sure to match up at least one edge of the invitation art to the other, so you can eliminate one cut.
- When you cut the invitations apart, you'll get the best results if you use a paper cutter. If you don't have one, you can pay someone to cut them at a print shop, copy center or office supply store. If there isn't a store with a paper cutter in your area, the next best approach is to use a craft knife, ruler and cutting board. And if all else fails, you can use scissors. If you decide to go that route, draw light pencil lines first, so you'll see where to cut. If you know you can't cut straight, use patterned scissors that will hide the imperfections in the cutting.
- Once the invitations are cut out, you might want to decorate them. There is a wonderful selection of three-dimensional embellishments available at craft stores. These include die stamped paper embellishments, silk flowers, rhinestones and many other surprising elements you may have never even seen before. Glitter glue or dimensional paint can also be used to customize the invitations. Be careful with this, however, because less is truly more when using embellishments. Use the glue or paint sparingly. Make sure to have extra invitations printed, so you can play with it until you get the best look.

DIY Jigsaw Birthday Present?
We're in a delemia here
My little sister recieved an invite to a birthday party from one of the girls in her glass- they are in kindegarten btw.
The theme of the party is a jigsaw party- the invites were an actual jigsaw that you had to complete in order to read the invite- which wa pretty cool... BUT what kind of present do we give this kid haha- its a girl btw.
She is a pretty smart switched on kid too.
I dont wanna just buy her a jigsaw becuase im assuming that thats what most people will do.
Has anyone seen those Bottle Puzzles? The ones where you have to unlock the puzzle in order to drink the wine or beer. I was thinking of making something like that inorder to get into her present- which will be something puzzley...

You could always make a picture/jigsaw puzzle. If you have a picture of your sister with this girl. Take the picture to a printshop like kinkos. Have them print the picture (larger) on a harder paper, something like thin cardboard or some type of material used in puzzles. Then lay a coat of varnish or lacquer over the top to keep the picture safe from being ruined and give it a shiny look. Then you just have to take a utility knife and cut out the pieces, as big or small as you want, as intricate or as easy as you want. Just an idea. Don't know how to make any other kind of puzzle.
